About

Shelby Prichard is a London-based artist-filmmaker and researcher originally from west Texas. Using embodied filmmaking methods and practices of listening, she makes multi-sensory films that stage cinematic encounters with nonhuman worlds, explore questions of perception and the limits of the visible, and probe the seeming boundaries between nature and culture. Her most recent work has been created through a submerged filmmaking practice that attends to the material resistance and opacity of marine environments and creatures.

Her films have been screened at festivals, cinemas, and galleries around the UK and US, including at the Slow Film Festival (London), Millennium Film Workshop (NYC), and SCANNERS Archive (San Diego, CA), and on Labocine.

She is currently completing her practice-based PhD in Film at Queen Mary University of London, where she also received an MA in Film in 2020. She has taught on a wide range of film theory and practice modules at both the BA and MA levels, including experimental and nonfiction filmmaking and film production skills.
